Anopheles coluzzii and An. gambiae males use ground visual markers (like dark patches) to form species-specific mating swarms at dusk, with females using the same markers to join. While sharing markers, An. coluzzii generally swarms higher or differently than An. gambiae, helping reduce hybridization. Females display "swarm-like" behavior, appearing at these sites to mate
