Résumé

Abstract:
This study addresses how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can help to improve the development of pragmatic competence among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. Pragmatic competence which is the ability to use language appropriately in diverse social contexts seems to be insufficiently addressed in conventional language instruction. This article studies how ICT can boost pragmatic awareness and production by integrating technology-enhanced strategies like digital simulations of communicative scenarios, online authentic materials, multimodal interaction platforms, and technology-supported explicit instruction. To reach a scientifically valid conclusion, the present study relies on a corpus of digitally recorded classroom interactions, online task-based activities, and learner performance data. The data was analyzed to identify which ICT-mediated methods best promote pragmatic development. The results of this inquiry demonstrate that a combination of explicit instruction with interactive, technology-supported communication tasks greatly improves learners’ pragmatic competence.
