Résumé

Introduction: Burkina Faso is classified as a highly endomic country for the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Many studies have reported that a national prevalence of approximately 9%. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of HBV infection in the rural medical center in Burkina Faso namely the Niangoloko medical center. Methodology: We performed HBV surface antigen serology (HBs antigen) on 150 patients seen in medical consultation from July to august 2019. Results: Of these, 23 had positive HbsAg serology, a prevalence of 15,33%. This prevalence was higher in men (19,18%). Most of the patients (87%) had no knowledge about HBV and the vaccine against HBV as well, where almost 96% of the patients in our series had not been vaccinated. Conclusion: In view of these results, it is therefore imperative to undertake urgent mass awareness measures under the aegis of a national program to combat viral hepatitis following the example of what is being done against HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
