Résumé

Anemia is a major public health problem in Burkina Faso. Although its physiology is well known, the determinants of this form of malnutrition in the Burkina Faso context are still poorly understood. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of anemia and associated factors among children aged 6 to 23 months in the health area of Sanmatenga province. This prospective study included a face-to-face interview with mothers of children aged 6 to 23 months, anthropometric measurements, and hemoglobin measurements. The results showed that 80.6% of the children surveyed were iron deficient and only 19.4% were not. However, only 11.8% of them had minimal dietary diversity. The analysis showed that gender was a factor significantly associated with anemia (p=0.001). The results obtained show a high prevalence of anemia in the study region. It is therefore important to implement anemia control strategies in the region, and these results could be used as baseline data for monitoring and evaluating these strategies.
