The contribution of sports federations to economic growth in Burkina Faso
- Revue RAMReS , (13) : 10-33
Résumé
This article analyzes the contribution of sports federations to economic growth in
Burkina Faso using an econometric model based on cross-sectional data covering the 2008
2022 period. The findings reveal that the organization of high-level championships (CHN),
investments made by sports federations (logdIPFédé), and the availability of sports
infrastructure (logninfrast) have a positive and statistically significant impact on economic
growth. Conversely, athletic performance—measured by the number of medals won—exerts a
negative, though moderate, effect on economic growth.
These results highlight the urgent need to reorient national sports policies towards sustainable
investment, the economic valorization of competitions, and the territorial integration of
infrastructure. It is crucial for the State and sports federations to forge strategic partnerships with the private sector, strengthen their managerial capacities, and adopt inclusive and
sustainable economic models.
