Résumé

This work was focused on the removal of hexavalent chromium from artificially contaminated
aqueous solutions using Orange peels as an adsorbent. Batch experiments were carried out in order to determine
the kinetics and the adsorption isotherms of the process. The influence of experimental variables such as the pH,
the temperature, the amount of absorbent, the contact time and the initial concentration of Cr(VI) was studied
and results indicated a significant effect on chromium removal. Maximum adsorption was observed for a pH
between 2 and 3 using C0 = 50 mg/L and m = 1g during 120 min of contact. The adsorption capacity has been
optimized by increasing the temperature, the amount of adsorbent and the initial Cr(VI) concentration. The
contact time for maximum Cr(VI) removal using activated orange peels was achieved around 270 min and 60
min at temperatures of 300°C and 400°C respectively.
